DisrupTech Ventures Backs Nigeria’s Winich Farms

DisrupTech Ventures, one of Egypt’s top early-stage fintech investors, has announced its first pan-African investment, backing Nigerian agri-tech startup Winich Farms as part of its Pre-Series A round. The Lagos-based company is using technology to tackle some of the most stubborn challenges in Nigeria’s agricultural sector: fragmented markets and lack of financial inclusion.

“Our investment in Winich reflects our conviction in the potential of Nigeria’s agri-fintech sector and the scalability of its model,” said Mohamed Okasha, Managing Partner at DisrupTech Ventures. “Agriculture is also core to Egypt’s economy, and we look forward to sharing insights and best practices between both markets as Winich grows across the continent.”

Although agriculture contributes 21% of Nigeria’s GDP and employs millions, the smallholder farmers who drive the sector often remain on the fringes of formal markets and financial systems. Around 80% of Nigeria’s farmers are smallholders, yet they produce over 90% of the country’s agricultural output.

Winich is stepping into this gap with a digital platform that directly connects more than 180,000 smallholder farmers with buyers including processors, retailers, and other off-takers. The startup operates across 29 of Nigeria’s 36 states, enabling farmers to sell their produce without going through multiple intermediaries who often cut into their margins.

“This partnership reinforces our vision to build a more inclusive and efficient agricultural value chain, starting from Nigeria and reaching out to global markets,” said Attai Riches, CEO and co-founder of Winich Farms. “DisrupTech Ventures brings in a wealth of fintech scaling experience that will be invaluable as we grow.”
