When you search for “abortion Cape Town,” the results can be overwhelming. Websites, Facebook pages, and enticing reviews may make these providers seem legitimate, but beware of the hidden dangers lurking beneath the surface. In the quest to protect women from illegal and hazardous practices, Marie Stopes delves into the alarming reality of Cape Town’s illegal abortion providers and scammers.

The Deceptive Facade

Many of these illegal abortion providers create a façade of legitimacy, complete with websites, social media presence, and even customer reviews. However, appearances can be deceiving. The promise of affordable abortion pills, priced at R700, may seem like a boon, but in reality, these offers are too good to be true.

The Red Flags

Marie Stopes conducted an analysis of Google search results and uncovered a disturbing trend – a majority of the providers were operating illegally and engaging in deceptive practices. Here are some red flags to watch out for:

Offering Abortions Beyond 20 Weeks:
Illegal providers claim to offer abortions up to 24 weeks, a blatant violation of South Africa’s legal limit of 20 weeks. This misinformation puts women at risk, as surgical procedures beyond this point can be dangerous. Additionally, the pills they provide may not be what they claim, jeopardizing women’s health without proper medical oversight.

Unusual Meeting Places:
These providers suggest meeting in public spaces, such as Loop Street, outside a bank, police station, or even at the mall. Despite the seemingly safe environment, this tactic is a smokescreen. Legitimate providers conduct thorough consultations in a medical setting, ensuring your safety throughout the process.

Unconventional Procedures:
They may recommend inserting pills vaginally, a step never part of a safe abortion procedure. Moreover, the absence of scans, consultations, and support during the process raises serious concerns about the provider’s commitment to your well-being.

Lack of Aftercare Services:
Illegal providers offer no aftercare services to confirm the completion of the termination. Once the pills are dispensed, they leave you to navigate the aftermath on your own. This lack of support is a stark contrast to the comprehensive care provided by reputable healthcare providers.

Superficial Inquiry:
Their only questions revolve around your pregnancy’s duration and your location, overlooking critical aspects of a safe abortion process. Legitimate providers ask a range of questions to ensure the procedure’s safety and effectiveness.

In our commitment to women’s health and safety, Marie Stopes urges you to be vigilant and share this information with friends and family. Below is a list of illegal abortion providers in Cape Town, compiled to empower you with the knowledge needed to protect yourself and your loved ones from the risks posed by unscrupulous individuals. (Please note that these are not all the illegal abortion providers in Cape Town and this is a short list of ones that we found in a simple Google search)
