M-PAYA Energy Taps Servercore Cloud to Power Smart Utility Management in Kenya

M-PAYA Energy, a Kenyan prepaid electricity submetering company, has moved its core business systems to Servercore cloud.

The company gains scalability, improved responsiveness, and predictable costs by moving to Servercore’s cloud. These are critical features for a startup expanding in a capital-intensive sector. “The ability to self-service stood out for us with Servercore. They gave us the confidence, control, and support we needed to make the transition seamless and future-ready,” said Mwai Mworia, CEO of M-PAYA Energy.

The startup’s backend applications, including client management, payment processing, and meter management, now run on Servercore’s infrastructure. Mworia emphasised that predictable pricing and the ability to scale resources independently were decisive factors. “We don’t have to go through support calls, emails, or formal requests. We can do it ourselves, and that’s a big plus,” he noted.

“By supporting M-PAYA’s transition to a next-generation utility billing and energy management system, we’ve ensured their team can focus on delivering real-time services without worrying about migration challenges or system downtime,” said Victoria Kleinbort, Head of Business Development at Servercore.

The move also reflects a broader theme TechArena has tracked. African startups are increasingly viewing IT infrastructure as a growth enabler rather than just a back-office expense. Just as fintechs rely on payment rails, proptech and energy-tech firms are beginning to depend on local cloud partners to support scale without compromising service.
