Insights At a Glance:
- TECNO teases the Spark 40 Pro+ global launch, the first smartphone in the world to be powered by the new MediaTek Helio G200 chipset.
- Ghana is ahead of the game, with pre-orders already live for the Spark 40 Pro and Pro+.
- Kenyan buyers can expect local prices between KES 12,000 and KES 30,000, with the full Spark 40 lineup likely launching in July.
In a social media teaser shared today, TECNO posted a sleek image of a fencing rapier—symbolizing precision, strength, and elegance. Right next to it? The name of their next big launch: Spark 40 Pro+.
It’s not just a clever visual. The accompanying caption, “Strength in slimness. The super slim and strong Spark 40 Pro+ is on the way. Ready for something new to Spark you up?”, all but confirms the upcoming global release of TECNO’s next flagship budget device.
And while the regular Spark 40 is already making waves in Nigeria, it turns out both the Spark 40 Pro and Spark 40 Pro+ are already available for pre-order in Ghana.
Ghana Gets the First Cut — Pricing Revealed
TECNO has quietly opened pre-orders in Ghana ahead of the global launch. Here’s how the pricing breaks down:
- Spark 40 Pro (128+8GB): GHS 1,828 (~ KES 23,000)
- Spark 40 Pro+ (128+8GB): GHS 2,109 (~ KES 26,400)
- Spark 40 Pro+ (256+8GB): GHS 2,439 (~ KES 30,500)
Pre-orders require small deposits, but it’s the final pricing that tells the real story. The Spark 40 Pro+ is clearly being positioned as the premium option in the lineup—likely the reason TECNO is using it as the face of the upcoming global campaign.
Spark 40 Series: A Cut Above the Rest?
Today’s teaser confirms what TECNO hinted at in May—the Spark 40 Pro+ is about to go global. This follows weeks of silence about the device’s availability in certain markets, including Kenya, despite the base model Spark 40 already hitting shelves in Nigeria at a price of ₦142,700 (roughly KES 12,000).
And while the Spark 40 is out and about, the real star of the show is clearly the Pro+ model. Why? One word: MediaTek Helio G200 processor.

Powering the Spark: Meet MediaTek’s New Chip
Under the hood, the Spark 40 Pro+ is the first smartphone in the world to feature MediaTek’s new Helio G200 chipset. That alone is a major flex.
Built on TSMC’s 6nm process, the G200 packs a punch with two Cortex-A76 cores (2.2GHz) and six Cortex-A55 cores (2.0GHz). TECNO promises over 10% performance boost compared to the older G100 (used in phones like the Camon 40 Pro 5G and Spark 30 Pro). The result? Faster multitasking, smoother gaming, and overall zippier performance.
If you’re the benchmarking type, the G200 reportedly scores around 470,000 on AnTuTu. That’s pretty solid territory for a phone that won’t break your wallet. The GPU got a tune-up too. The Mali-G57 MC2 now clocks at 1.1GHz, delivering better graphics for all your gaming and Netflixing needs.
What’s 4G DC SAR and Why Should You Care?
TECNO isn’t just chasing raw performance—they’re also looking at smarter connectivity. The Spark 40 Pro+ will leverage 4G DC SAR—short for Dynamic Communication Smart Adaptive Response.
While MediaTek may have cooked up the tech, TECNO explains it better. In short: it boosts network efficiency in areas with weak signal, meaning faster internet speeds, better calls, and more stable gaming in those patchy coverage zones we all love to hate.
So whether you’re in the middle of Nairobi or deep in the countryside, the Spark 40 Pro+ promises to hold the line.
Eye Candy and Early Launches
Visually, the Spark 40 Pro+ is designed to turn heads. TECNO teases a super slim form factor with powerful internals, blending the elegance of the Spark series with flagship-like performance. Thanks to TECNO’s custom algorithms paired with the G200, the device also supports 1.5K super-resolution rendering, bringing sharper visuals and upscaled video quality to a phone at an entry-level price.
Interestingly, this launch is coming earlier than expected. The Spark 30 Series only launched in September 2024, with a global release in October. So TECNO’s moving fast this year—probably fueled by the global buzz around affordable AI-powered phones and rapid chipset upgrades.
What About Kenya?
So far, TECNO Mobile Kenya hasn’t made a peep about either the Spark 40, Spark 40 Pro or Spark 40 Pro+. But with Nigeria already selling the base Spark 40 and Ghana taking pre-orders on the full lineup, Kenya likely won’t be far behind.

Considering the confirmed prices in Nigeria and Ghana, Kenyan buyers can likely expect the standard Spark 40 (128+4GB) to retail at around KES 12,000, mirroring its ₦142,700 pricing in Nigeria. The Spark 40 Pro (128+8GB), which is going for GHS 1,828 in Ghana, would likely land in Kenya at around KES 20,000-23,000. As for the Spark 40 Pro+, the 128+8GB variant should arrive at about KES 24,000–27,000, while the 256+8GB variant, priced at GHS 2,439 in Ghana, could stretch up to about KES 30,000, depending on local taxes, distribution, and launch promotions.
Should You Wait?
If you’re in the market for a new budget-friendly device with a bit of flair and solid internals, waiting for the Spark 40 Pro+ might be a smart move. TECNO’s pushing boundaries—new chip, better connectivity, and all wrapped in a sleek body that doesn’t scream “budget.”
Let’s hope they deliver it to Kenyan shelves before the spark fizzles out.
