The 2025 Telkom Netball League semifinals are on the horizon, and Power Week 3 Day 2 at the Durban ICC delivered intense matches that shape the competition at the Durban International Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday, 15 July 2025.
The day started off with the two KwaZulu-Natal teams (Kingdom Queens and Kingdom Stars) recording impressive wins. The Kingdom Queens edged out the Comets 50-45 in a closely contested match. Meanwhile, the Kingdom Stars dismantled the Lillies, winning 71-21 with a staggering 50-goal difference, cementing their control.
The Gauteng Jaguars overcame a slow start, losing the first quarter 14-12, to dominate the North West Flames and secure a 63-51 win. The Jaguars’ defensive prowess shone through from the second quarter onwards, in a very tough encounter.
Key players like Jamie van Wyk, who was named player of the match, made several crucial interceptions that kept the Flames in check. The Jaguars’ 12 interceptions were a highlight of the game.

Jaguars coach Rozanne Matthyse emphasised the importance of refocusing her team on their game plan, saying:
“We just need to make sure that they understand why we are here… while reminding them why we are using all our matches to get into the semifinals.”
Gauteng Jaguars Coach, Rozanne Matthyse
Flames coach Elsunet Du Plessis reflected, “We were flat-footed on attack, too wide, and made unforced errors… we need to focus on the basics and play as a unit to reduce the margin of error.”

Meanwhile, the Southern Stings proved their mettle, dominating the Baobabs 76-44. Stings coach Dr. Freda Kemp gave all 11 players a chance to take to the court, showcasing the team’s depth and talent. Rochelle Rossouw, Lefébre Rademan and Sian Moore made a significant impact in the shooting circle, with Moore scoring 3 out of 4 Supershots.
The Baobabs struggled with the Supershot, and high turnover rates hindered their chances. Despite Amber Marshall and Muhluri Hlatshwayo’s efforts, Emily Mathosa’s charges couldn’t keep pace with the Stings’ relentless attack. The Baobabs had 49 attempts at goal but failed to capitalise on scoring opportunities.

“We have got to prepare for our next game against the Fireballs,” said Stings coach Dr. Freda Kemp, “We are going to use this game to really practice our strategy and test players to see how we can come out victorious.”
“We’re pretty sure we’ll face them again in the semifinals, so it’s a great opportunity to fine-tune our game plan.”
Southern Stings Coach, Dr. Freda Kemp
This win is crucial for the Western Cape side, with the competition heating up and every point counting. The Baobabs, on the other hand, will need to regroup and reassess their strategy to turn their fortunes around.

Tshukudu secured a nail-biting 45-42 win over the Kingdom Queens, with a strong performance and strategic play. Tshukudu’s discipline and strategy paid off, with 13 rebounds and key interceptions that ultimately sealed their victory.
Notably, the Queens were playing their second match of the day, fought hard, particularly in the fourth quarter, with Amanda Ntshangase and Thobekile Mjaja shining in the shooting circle.
The Durban ICC was electric, with enthusiastic supporters singing and cheering throughout the match, adding to the excitement and tension.
