Insights At a Glance:

  • Vivo Y29 is now available in Kenya starting at KES 23,999, featuring a massive 6500mAh battery, Snapdragon 685, and Android 15 out of the box.
  • The phone boasts a 6.68-inch 120Hz display, 50MP rear camera, and up to 8+256GB storage with support for microSD expansion.
  • Competing in the KES 20K–30K range, it joins rivals like TECNO Spark 40 series, Infinix NOTE 50 series, Redmi Note 14 series, and more.

Vivo has quietly dropped its latest budget smartphone in Kenya — the Vivo Y29 — and while the launch might have come without much fanfare, the specs are making noise where it matters. With a massive 6500mAh battery, Snapdragon 685 processor, and a 120Hz refresh rate, this phone confidently plants itself in the already buzzing under-KES 30,000 segment.

Starting today, Kenyans can grab the Vivo Y29 at KES 23,999 for the 8+128 GB model, and KES 26,999 for the 8+256 GB variant, although it’s not yet live on Jumia or Kilimall at the time of writing. That should change very soon though — Vivo says the phone is available countrywide, and retailers are likely gearing up as we speak.

Big Battery, Smooth Display, Bold Looks

The headline feature here is easily the 6500mAh battery, which promises marathon usage. That’s topped up using a decent 44W fast charger, meaning you can juice it back up pretty quickly despite the large capacity.

For display lovers, you’re looking at a 6.68-inch LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate — an increasingly common find in this price range. It maxes out at 1000 nits brightness, which should hold up well even outdoors.

And let’s talk aesthetics — the phone lands in two bold colour options: Noble Brown (a rich, matte-like finish) and Elegant White (featuring a pearlescent shimmer). Both designs bring some polish to a budget price point, and the composite back keeps things relatively light at around 204–208 grams.

Infinix HOT 60i!

Built to Compete in a Crowded Market

The Vivo Y29 enters a market already buzzing with solid alternatives: TECNO Spark 40 series, Infinix NOTE 50 series, Samsung Galaxy A26, Redmi Note 14 series, and OPPO A5/A5 Pro — all falling within the same KES 20K–30K bracket.

But Vivo isn’t just throwing in a pretty phone. It backs it with a Snapdragon 685 chip, 6nm build, and Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15 out of the box. Unfortunately, it’s still a 4G phone, a rare find in this category.

Camera, Storage & Extras

On the back, the phone rocks a 50MP main sensor paired with a 2MP depth sensor. Selfies are handled by an 8MP front camera, and the phone supports a decent list of features like Night mode, Portrait, Dual View, and Slo-mo.

Storage configurations go up to 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM, with expansion support up to 2TB via microSD. You also get virtual RAM expansion — up to 8GB more from storage if needed.

Extras? There’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, and even NFC support — though the latter only appears to be available in select markets like Kazakhstan.

The Vivo Y29 might not come with the clout of a flashy launch event, but its specs do plenty of talking. Vivo clearly knows what budget-conscious users want: a long-lasting battery, smooth performance, and an eye-catching design.

While we wait for availability to hit the major online stores, the Vivo Y29 is definitely one to consider if you’re shopping within that sweet KES 20K–30K zone.
