The primary rollout occurred on Jan. 17; two weeks later, the Artemis 2 workforce carried out a moist gown rehearsal (WDR), operating the mission’s Area Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion crew capsule by their paces on Pad 39B.
Nevertheless, a leak of liquid hydrogen propellant ended that two-day-long check a bit early. Workforce members fastened the leak on the pad, swapping out some seals within the affected space. They then carried out one other WDR, which Artemis 2 accomplished on Feb. 19.
That success stored the mission on course for a deliberate March 6 launch. However in a single day from Feb. 20 to Feb. 21, the Artemis 2 workforce observed a brand new downside: a helium-flow interruption within the SLS higher stage.
Mission managers rolled the Artemis 2 stack again to the VAB to take care of that problem, fixing it earlier this month. Now, every little thing is ready for a second rollout forward of a deliberate launch on April 1.
There will likely be fewer hoops to leap by this time: NASA has stated it would not plan to conduct one other WDR after Artemis 2 will get again to the pad.
The Artemis 2 astronauts are NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Area Company. The quartet would be the first individuals to enterprise past low Earth orbit for the reason that closing Apollo mission in 1972.
If Artemis 2 can not get off the bottom on April 1, NASA has different alternatives every day from April 2 to April 6, in addition to on April 30. One other launch window opens in Might, however the company has not but introduced potential dates in that month.
