Nairobi nightlife is a vibe. It’s bold, energetic, and always ready to show you a good time. One thing I absolutely love about this city is that there’s always something going on – whether it’s a live music night, a rooftop party, or just a buzzing bar full of friendly faces.

Kenyans love to dance, party and drink (as do I – which is why I fit in so well), and they know how to have fun – so if you’re into music, good food, and letting loose after dark, Nairobi is probably your kind of place.

There’s something for everyone here. Whether you’re in the mood for a laid-back drink with a live acoustic set, an all-out club night, or something totally different like board games and cocktails, Nairobi’s got you covered.

It’s the one city in the world where you can start with a quiet sundowner overlooking a national park filled with lions, rhinos and giraffes and then end up in a super trendy club dancing to the latest Afrobeats.

So, if you’re wondering where to go out to find the best Nairobi nightlife – here are a few of my absolute favourites.

Also, if you’re a backpacker looking for a great place to stay in Nairobi, check out Jubulani Backpackers hostel.

Cool Places to Go Out in Nairobi at Night

Geco Cafe (Lavington)

My new favourite place in Lavington! Geco has such a great vibe – think live music, and a mixed, easygoing crowd. I’ve been a couple of times and it was so much fun. Definitely go on a night when they have a band playing – there’s nothing like it! Usually have live music on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. But check out their Instagram page for info.

Brew Bistro (Westlands & Ngong Road)

Famous for their craft beers, but they do all the regular drinks too. Brew Bistro has a stylish, grown-up feel – perfect for after-work drinks or a chill Friday night. The happy hour (5pm–7pm) is worth catching, and they sometimes have live music. There are two locations, but I tend to go to the one in Westlands.

The Alchemist (Westlands)

The Alchemist is Nairobi institution on the Nairobi nightlife scene at this point! It’s more than a bar—it’s an experience. Think food trucks, live music, open-air movie nights, cool DJs, ping pong tables and quirky shops. Try the Mama Rocks burgers (you won’t regret it), and check out the Made in Kenya store—they sell gorgeous locally made jewellery, clothes, and snacks.

K1 Clubhouse (Parklands)

This is a cool restaurant/bar near to Westlands, in Parklands. Sundays are my favourite at K1 Clubhouse – there’s a fun flea market and live music. They also hold reggae nights on Thursdays. Great place to mingle with locals and expats alike.

Bao Box (Westlands)

Such a unique spot! Bao Box is a board game/karaoke/restaurant in Westlands – fun for a low-key night out with friends. They’ve got loads of games (board games and more physical games, like mini golf and darts), karaoke, pop up events, good food, and a chilled vibe.

Choices Pub (Westlands)

This one’s a little more local, less polished – but that’s part of the charm. Choices Pub is known for good music, a lively crowd, and well-priced drinks. If you want to experience Nairobi’s real party scene, this is a great place to start.

Yunion (Westlands)

Yunion is an all-day brunch café that transforms into a cool bar with dance nights. Love the vibe here—it’s trendy but not pretentious. They throw some great parties, especially if you’re into Afro-house or Amapiano.

The Oval – Artcaffe (Westlands)

This is more of a stylish after-work hangout during the week, but Fridays and Saturdays it gets lively, especially during salsa nights. Located in The Oval building in Westlands, it’s a nice mix of bar, café, and dance floor. Their Upperhill (Britam Towers) location also has free kizomba lessons on Thursdays. You can see their website here.

Nairobi Street Kitchen (Westlands)

This is one of the coolest and most creative spaces in Nairobi. NSK is part food court, part rooftop bar, part art gallery, and part event space – all rolled into one! There are loads of different food stalls offering everything from sushi to burgers to local dishes, plus several bars depending on your mood (including a rooftop with a great view). It’s got a funky, industrial feel with colourful murals and repurposed shipping containers – perfect for photos too! They host events, DJs, and themed nights, so keep an eye on their socials to see what’s on. Great for groups or a casual night with a bit of everything.

Simba Saloon at Carnivore (Langata)

This is the nightclub at the famous Carnivore restaurant. To be honest, I’m kind of over big clubs with shots and flashing lights – but that said, with the right group, it can still be a lot of fun. Expect a more youthful, party-heavy vibe here.

Sky Lounge at Emara Ole-Sereni (Langata)

If you’re after a classy rooftop experience with sweeping views of Nairobi National Park on one side and the city skyline on the other, Sky Lounge is your spot. It’s at the top of Emara Ole-Sereni near Mombasa Road, so it’s a bit outside the main nightlife areas, but totally worth the trip – especially around sunset. Great for cocktails, date nights, or just treating yourself to a more chilled-out evening.

Sarabi Rooftop Lounge (Westlands)

Located at the Sankara Hotel in Westlands, Sarabi is an upscale rooftop bar with an infinity pool, lounge seating, and one of the best cocktail menus in town. It’s perfect for a glam night out or a relaxed drink with a view. They often have DJs or live music on weekends, and the crowd tends to be a bit more polished and stylish – dress up a little for this one!

Unseen Nairobi (Kilimani)

This place is such a vibe. It’s a rooftop indie cinema, café, bar, and creative space all in one – tucked away in Kilimani. They show a mix of local and international films, and afterwards you can hang out on the rooftop with a drink, soak in the view, and chat about the movie (or not). It’s a great option if you’re looking for something a little different from the usual bar or club night.

Sky Bar (Westlands)

Another great rooftop option in Westlands. Sky Bar sits on top of the Ibis Styles Hotel and has a laid-back, modern vibe with good food, decent cocktails, and panoramic views. It’s not overly crowded, so it’s a solid choice if you want somewhere with atmosphere but without the chaos. A great spot for sundowners before heading elsewhere – or just settling in for the night.

If You Love to Dance Salsa…

Nairobi has a brilliant dance scene! Check out Dance Factory Kenya for an up-to-date list of dance events – from salsa to kizomba and bachata to Afrobeat nights. It’s a great way to meet people and try something new. There are regular salsa nights at Brew Bistro, Nairobi Street Kitchen and Artcaffe.
