At the moment, Greenpeace activists disrupted Woodside’s Annual Common Assembly, its greatest company occasion of the 12 months, to place the soiled fuel company’s disastrous plans to drill at Scott Reef entrance and centre.
Whereas a group rallied outdoors the shareholder assembly, Greenpeace activists introduced the protest inside.
Collectively, a transparent message was despatched to Woodside’s executives: hold your arms off Scott Reef.
Inside, a choir of activists carried out a ‘Save Scott Reef’ rendition of Angie McMahon’s cowl of ‘Reckless’ – a plea to Woodside’s executives, together with new CEO Liz Westcott, and shareholders to desert their reckless plans to drill for soiled fuel on the doorstep of a pristine ocean ecosystem.
A number of activists have been escorted out of the assembly by safety whereas singing and holding up “Arms off Scott Reef” indicators that had been smuggled into the room.
Exterior, a strong group gathered in protest, calling on WA and Federal governments to reject Woodside’s Browse mission and put our oceans and local weather first.
Why are we doing this?
Woodside’s Browse mission entails drilling 57 fuel wells beneath and round Scott Reef – a essential habitat for uncommon marine life together with pygmy blue whales, inexperienced sea turtles and the dusky sea snake.
Fuel could be extracted and transported to the Burrup Hub – essentially the most polluting fossil gas mission in Australia. This proposal would industrialise Australia’s largest freestanding oceanic reef system, threatening the marine life that depends on it and the local weather.
This mission has already been referred to as “unacceptable” by the WA EPA, and has not but been accredited by both the WA or Federal authorities.
Which means our voices matter, now.
Woodside can’t be trusted with our oceans. Collectively, we will save Scott Reef.
